The European Union Film Festival – India (EUFF) is an annual event organised by the EU Delegation to India along with Member States. The festival celebrates the diversity and depth of European cinema and culture, featuring award-winning films from all 27 European Union countries. It offers a ‘Window to Europe’ to the audience and demonstrates the power of cinema to transcend boundaries and create shared experiences.
This year marks the 28th edition of the EU Film Festival. Rich in genres and themes, the films take the audience on a cinematic journey with stories that underline the crucial role of inter-generational and intercultural dialogue and celebrate the creative and cultural exchange between the EU and India.
With a specially curated line-up, the festival offers 28 films in over 25 languages including 18 films by women directors. The festival offers the best of outstanding European cinema from European Union countries and Ukraine, celebrating the most recent cinematic triumphs at Cannes, Tribeca, Tallinn, Venice, Berlin and San Sebastian, amongst others.
The audience also has the opportunity to interact with European filmmakers and artists visiting the festival. Audience stand to get an exclusive insight into the nuances of filmmaking and acting in exclusive interaction with French actress Guslagie Malanda, Finnish director Hanna Marjo Västinsalo, Finnish Producer Cyril Jacob Abraham and Estonian director Anu Aun.
The EUFF, over the years, has become a familiar sharing space to highlight the variety and wealth of European cinematography with passionate Indian audiences. The festival celebrates the love for cinema that both Europe and India share. With this, we welcome you to the 28th EU Film Festival.
Life is a real and metaphysical journey through the lands we explore, the people we meet, the stories we tell and the ones that are told to us. Cinema too is a journey that we undertake together with people sitting next to us in a theatre or miles away.
This ability to transcend borders, express the multi-sensorial possibility of exploring reality, of getting closer to other people and traveling into the mystery that binds our lives is what makes cinema a powerful medium.
This metaphorical journey is the main theme of the 28th edition of the European Union Film Festival – India, understood as the will for change and of the search for a path to reach the awareness that often individual freedom and happiness is inextricably connected to the freedom and happiness of others.
This year, the festival will travel from New Delhi (1st to 10th December) to Chennai (19th to 28th January 2024), offering a gamut of specially curated award-winning films that showcase the richness, variety and the complexity of European culture.
Intimate tales reflect universal experiences, as the festival offers a ticket to travel into the heart of Europe. Showcasing 28 films from across the EU, plus Ukraine, the films, in over 25 languages, include the work of 18 remarkable female directors. The festival line-up offers evocative, innovative, independent and offbeat voices across genres such as drama, comedy, sci-fi, documentary and animation, among others.
Through the stories, we’ll embark on a compelling journey that could bring us far from where we are but also push us into exploring the hidden angles of our souls, trying to overcome personal weakness, stereotypes and fears, while opening new perspectives.
In addition to the cinematic journey, the festival offers an opportunity to the audience to interact with and explore the art of storytelling with exceptional European and Indian filmmakers and artists.
I look forward to sharing this journey and exploring the nuances of cinema together!

I am delighted to welcome you to the 28th European Union Film Festival (EUFF). A flagship annual event curated by the EU Delegation to India, the festival provides audiences a #WindowtoEurope through the lens of cinema. Organised together with the 27 EU member states in true #TeamEurope spirit, it celebrates the diversity and depth of European cinema and culture. This year, we also welcome a film from Ukraine, to join the festival.
“The cinema has no boundaries; it is a ribbon of dream” once said Orson Welles. This is the power and magic of cinema. It provides insights into everyday lives as much as it can tap into our imagination and aspirations, opening up new and unknown perspectives. It also acts as a bridge between different cultures, beyond geographical boundaries.
Europe and India share a common love story with cinema and story-telling. No wonder that the EUFF has established itself as a meeting place for people sharing a common passion for cinema and as a space for conversation between European and Indian audiences and filmmakers.
This year, we have an excellent line-up of films that have won accolades at top film festivals around the world, including Cannes, Academy Awards, Venice Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, IFFI, among others. Rich in genre, the EUFF brings some of the best stories and creators from Europe to the Indian audience. It is a great opportunity to meet the master storytellers, get the taste of various cultures and experience a myriad of emotions, all in one place!
I invite you on a cinematic journey across Europe, with (European) stars in your eyes!
